OUR MISSION
OUR MISSION:
empower and advance youth rugby initiatives serving under-resourced communities across the United States.
The challenges
The URA exists to address unmet needs in our country, and in our sport. There is no single solution to these deeply entrenched issues, but when we work together towards common goals, and leverage the assets and experiences we all have to offer, the long moral arc of the universe bends towards justice.
-
Low-income and minority youth lack access to rugby and the empowering opportunities, support and resources that it can unlock. Rugby in America is largely homogenous. Not only are we better when we are more diverse, we believe the competitive future of American Rugby will be built through creating this access to communities that need it most.
-
The vast majority of students born into poverty are impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), which drastically disrupt their cognitive and physical development. Leveraging best practices in Trauma Informed Coaching, sport has been proven to be among the most powerful contexts for building resilience, healing and growth.
-
Starting, scaling and sustaining urban rugby programs is extremely difficult. The only way to create enduring change in rugby and in our country is to make a long-term, sustainable investment in the children we serve. They deserve nothing less and nothing less will achieve our mission.
